BLEV Alignment to the California Science Standards

All the activities and facility tours link to the 4th and 5th Grade California Science Standards Physical Science strand

Students know that electrical energy can be converted to motion.  Electric motors and light

Students know that matter is made of atoms which may combine to form molecules.  Activity with metal blocks

Students know that metals have properties in common such as electrical and thermal conductivity   Some metals are a combination of elemental metals  Activity with metal blocks and electrical and thermal conductivity using different materials

Students know that each element is made of one kind of atom and that elements are organized in the Periodic Table by their chemical property.  Activity with metal blocks

Students know that scientists have developed instruments that can create distinct images of atoms and molecules.  Advanced Light Source tour

Students know properties of solid, liquid and gas substances, such as water, carbon dioxide and nitrogen.  Dry ice activity and liquid nitrogen demonstration.
